The Dutch gambling authority (Kansspelautoriteit – KSA) has confirmed that no gambling-related sponsorships or advertising will be visible during the upcoming Formula 1 Heineken Dutch Grand Prix in Zandvoort. The regulator contacted event organisers ahead of the race weekend to reiterate that the strict national rules apply not only to Dutch teams, but also to all international participants competing in the Netherlands.

Under these regulations, logos, branding or promotional messages from gambling operators are not allowed, regardless of whether the company is licensed in other countries. The KSA stressed that the rules leave no room for exceptions and that every team must comply to avoid breaching Dutch advertising law.

Past controversies shape current stance

This is not the first time the KSA has had to step in during Formula 1 season. In 2023, the regulator asked Sauber Racing and the Dutch Grand Prix organisers to avoid displaying Stake’s branding, as the betting operator is not licensed to operate in the Netherlands. The case highlighted the strict stance of Dutch authorities, who consider any promotion of unlicensed gambling providers as illegal advertising.

Even companies with a Dutch licence must navigate heavy restrictions, since gambling promotion is tightly regulated to limit exposure. According to the KSA, organisers and sponsors should always reach out for clarification when in doubt, to prevent violations during high-profile events.

A strictly regulated Grand Prix ahead

The 2025 Dutch Grand Prix will take place from 29 to 31 August at Circuit Zandvoort, where fans will once again enjoy the race under these strict sponsorship conditions. The event will follow the same framework that has already shaped previous editions, ensuring the competition is free from gambling-related advertising.

Meanwhile, the KSA has been active in other areas of enforcement. Recent automated checks on the Control Databases of licensed operators uncovered various irregularities in data reporting. The authority also issued a warning to TonyBet casino online for offering football betting markets that are not permitted under Dutch law, reinforcing its firm approach across all fronts of the gambling industry.
